History

BioHorizons launched in 1994 out of the University of Alabama at Birmingham Institute for Innovation, founded by Carl E. Misch DDS, Martha Bidez PhD, and Todd Strong with three employees. Its distinguishing technology, Laser-Lok, uses laser-machined microchannels at the implant collar to influence soft and hard tissue attachment.

Henry Schein acquired a 60% interest in December 2013 and completed a full acquisition in 2018. BioHorizons now operates alongside Camlog as BioHorizons Camlog within Henry Schein's Global Dental Surgical Group.
